 2024 Preview 


       Decatur Heritage Christian completed the 2023 season with a 9-2 record. Last year Decatur Heritage Christian captured the region seven title and a number one seed in the Class 1A playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-0 record. Decatur Heritage Christian's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Winterboro by a score of 42-37.

       The Eagles hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach Stover saw improvement as they won nine games following a 4-6 record in 2022.

       Since 2010, Decatur Heritage Christian has gone a combined 100-57. Their 63.7% winning percentage ranks 10th in Class 2A over the past fourteen seasons.

       Over the past 14 seasons, Decatur Heritage Christian has managed to compile a record of 100-57. Their 64.0% winning percentage ranks 7th in Class 2A and 70th in the AHSAA.

Graduated All-State Players:
       Decatur Heritage Christian lost 1A All-State  offensive lineman Jacob Belcher to graduation. He was named to the second team last season.

Head Coach:
       The Eagles are led by head coach Nikita Stover who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 13-8 over the past two seasons at Decatur Heritage Christian. Under his direction the Eagles have qualified for the playoffs once. They have won one region crown with Coach Stover.

Season Outlook:

       The Decatur Heritage Christian Eagles will play in Class 2A region eight during the 2024 season. The Eagles move up in classification to Class 2A. They may find the going slightly tougher with the move.

      

       The Eagles enter the 2024 season having won 6 straight region games.

       The Eagles will make the jump up to 2A this season for the first time. After a successful season in 2023 the outlook for this year is promising with several key players returning. They will play in region 8 which only has six teams after Belgreen decided to postpone their jump into varsity football for another year.

       According to Coach Stover Nash Thomas will move to TE and DE 6'3 220 Jr. Budda Taylor and Savarius Evans will split carries at running back. Taylor is a 5'8 170 lb. sophomore. Others Coach Stover are counting on as team leaders in 2024 are Johnathan Bowling OG/DT 5'10 240 and Dylan Germany 6'1 185 will be QB/FS.

       Look for the Eagles to not miss much of a beat in 2A and be around come playoff time in November.

    The Eagles are considered one of the favorites for the region eight championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs.

Players to Watch in 2024:
      RB Savarius Evans will return after rushing for 2,012 yards and 24 TDs last season as a freshman.

      DE Dylan Germany collected 103 tackles (47 solo) on defense and will be returning.

Season Opener:
       The Eagles open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Sheffield on Friday, August 23 at Rebels Stadium, West Morgan. Last year the Sheffield Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 3-7 and in sixth place in Class 2A region eight.

       This will be the second meeting between Decatur Heritage Christian and Sheffield on the football field. The Eagles have a 1-0-0 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in with

Foley outscored their opponents 433-6 in 1961. The Lions were named state champions by the Alabama Sports Writers Association that season.
