 2024 Preview

Fayette County completed the 2023 season with a 6-5 record. With their 3-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 3A region five, the Tigers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2023. Fayette County's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Lauderdale County by a score of 35-14.

Since 2010, Fayette County has gone a combined 117-57. Their 67.2% winning percentage ranks 12th in Class 4A over the past fourteen seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Fayette County has finished a combined 209-92. Their 69.0% winning percentage ranks 6th in Class 4A and 47th in the AHSAA. The Tigers have been successful on the football field with twenty-two winning seasons during this time.

Graduated All-State Players:
Fayette County lost 3A All-State  defensive back Hollis Strawbridge to graduation. He was named to the second team last season.

Head Coach:
The Tigers are led by head coach Jared Porter who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 14-8 over the past two seasons at Fayette County. Under his direction the Tigers have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Porter.

Season Outlook:

The Fayette County Tigers will play in Class 4A region five during the 2024 season. The Tigers move up in classification to Class 4A. They may find the going slightly tougher with the move.

After two years in 3A the Tigers make the move back to Class 4A this season. They have qualified for the playoffs in eighteen of the past nineteen football seasons so that is a streak they value and would like to see continued in 2024.

Their non-region schedule is as tough as any other team in 4A as they open with games against Gordo and South Lamar on the road then play a midseason game against Winfield. The Tigers should be able to compete for one of the four playoff spots in Region 5 this year.

The Tigers should be in contention for a playoff spot in region five this season. Hosting a first round playoff game on their home turf would be an advantage.

Season Opener:
The Tigers open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Gordo on Thursday, August 22 at Green Wave Stadium. Last year the Gordo Green Wave finished with an overall record of 10-2 and in first place in Class 3A region five. The Green Wave lost in the second round of the Class 3A playoffs to Geraldine by a score of 42-34.

Fayette County and Gordo have met a total of 78 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 42-34-2 record against the Green Wave. They last met in 2023 with Gordo winning by a score of 35-6.
