 2024 Preview

Locust Fork completed the 2023 season with a 12-1 record. The Hornets cruised through the regular season with a perfect 10-0 record going into the post season. Last year Locust Fork captured the region six title and a number one seed in the Class 2A playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-0 record. It was the first region championship for the Hornets since the 2001 season. Locust Fork lost in the quarter-finals of the playoffs last season to a good Fyffe team by a score of 63-33.

No team at Locust Fork ever won more games in a season than the twelve victories last year. The 685 points scored by the Hornets last year were a team record in a single season. The Hornets hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach Adams saw improvement as they won twelve games following a 7-4 record in 2022.

The high-scoring Locust Fork offense ranked 1st in the AHSAA. They averaged 52.7 points a game.

The Hornets defense dominated most opponents as they ranked 39th in the AHSAA. The defense gave up just 14.7 points a game.

Since 2010, Locust Fork has gone a combined 71-77. Their 48.0% winning percentage ranks 33rd in Class 3A over the past fourteen seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Locust Fork has managed to compile a record of 113-149. Their 43.0% winning percentage ranks 37th in Class 3A and 241st in the AHSAA.

Graduated All-State Players:
Locust Fork lost 2A All-State  defensive lineman JJ Boatright to graduation. He was named to the first team last season.

Head Coach:
The Hornets are led by head coach Billy Adams who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 22-12 over the past three seasons at Locust Fork. Under his direction the Hornets have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have won one region crown with Coach Adams.

Season Outlook:

The Locust Fork Hornets will play in Class 3A region six during the 2024 season. The Hornets move up in classification to Class 3A. They may find the going slightly tougher with the move.

The Hornets enter the 2024 season riding a 12 game regular season winning streak. They have won 10 straight games on their home turf at Pate Field.

No team could put up points like the Locust Fork Hornets in 2023. They scored an amazing 685 points in only thirteen games. That's an average of over 52 points a game. Coach Billy Adams and the staff had our attention at HSFHS.org after just a few games with the way they were playing football in Locust Fork.

Can they keep it up this year? Yes, they probably can score another ton of points behind one of the most dynamic players in the state. Quarterback Dylan Embry will be back after accounting for over 3,100 yards and 52 touchdowns in 2023. He is a magician on the field with every snap.

The move up in classification to 3A should not be a major problem for the Hornets this year as they should be able to compete right away.

The Hornets are considered one of the favorites for the region six championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs.

Players to Watch in 2024:
QB Dylan Embry will be returning for his senior season after completing 70-of-95 passes for 1,688 yards and 20 TDs last season. Embry also ran for 1,499 yards and 25 touchdowns. He is a dynamic player.

Returning Starters:
WR/SS Landon Keith, RB Miles Watts, RB Kolby Holt

Season Opener:
The Hornets open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Oneonta on Friday, August 23 at Pate Field. Last year the Oneonta Redskins finished with an overall record of 7-3 and in second place in Class 4A region six. The Redskins lost in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs to Brooks by a score of 56-42.

Locust Fork and Oneonta have met a total of 56 times on the football field. The Hornets have a 9-47-0 record against the Redskins. They last met in 2015 with Oneonta winning by a score of 62-0.
