 2024 Preview

Montgomery Academy completed the 2023 season with a 4-7 record. With their 4-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 4A region two, the Eagles earned a spot in the playoffs in 2023. Montgomery Academy's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Bibb County by a score of 56-6.

The Eagles lost as many games as in any season since 2010. The defense allowed a team record 435 points last season.

Montgomery Academy struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 39.5 points a game.

Since 2010, Montgomery Academy has gone a combined 103-61. Their 62.8% winning percentage ranks 17th in Class 3A over the past fourteen seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Montgomery Academy has managed to compile a record of 186-106. Their 64.0% winning percentage ranks 9th in Class 3A and 63rd in the AHSAA.

Graduated All-State Players:
Montgomery Academy lost 4A All-State  punter Parker Cook to graduation. He was named to the honorable mention team last season.

Head Coach:
The Eagles are led by head coach Ethan McBride who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 4-7 record in his first season at Montgomery Academy. Under his direction the Eagles have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach McBride.

Season Outlook:

The Montgomery Academy Eagles will play in Class 3A region two during the 2024 season. The Eagles may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class 4A to 3A. They will compete in region two this year.

The Eagles move down to 3A along with Slocomb following realignment. The move should make them very competitive for one of the four playoff spots available.

Montgomery Academy has reached the playoffs the past eleven seasons and the drop to 3A will likely only help their chances the next two seasons. The region is tough with Houston Academy and Trinity not to mention Alabama Christian and Prattville Christian trying to grab one of the four playoff spots available.

They do return D.J. Vinson at receiver who will be a vital component in the Eagle offense in 2024.

The Eagles have a good shot at one of the last two playoff slots in region two this season. They have qualified for the playoffs every year since 2012 and are hopeful to continue that streak in 2024.

Players to Watch in 2024:
WR D.J. Vinson will be back for his senior season after catching 60 passes for 1,381 yards and 14 TDs in 2023.

Returning Starters:
WR/DB DJ Vinson, OL/DL Juan Kirkland, RB/DB Mac Benefield, OL/DL Graham Martin, WR/DB Jarrett Friendly

Season Opener:
The Eagles open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Tallassee on Friday, August 23 at McLemore Field. Last year the Tallassee Tigers finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in sixth place in Class 5A region four. The Tigers closed out the regular season with a loss to Holtville by a score of 54-18.

This will be the second meeting between Montgomery Academy and Tallassee on the football field. The Eagles have a 1-0-0 record against the Tigers. They last met in with
