 2024 Preview

New Brockton finished the 2023 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year New Brockton finished sixth in Class 3A region two with a 3-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

New Brockton was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Gamecocks want to be competitive. They only averaged 16.3 points a game.

The Gamecocks would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 3-17 record. Since 2010, New Brockton has gone a combined 65-82. Their 44.2% winning percentage ranks 42nd in Class 4A over the past fourteen seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, New Brockton has managed to compile a record of 117-145. Their 45.0% winning percentage ranks 43rd in Class 4A and 242nd in the AHSAA.

Head Coach:
The Gamecocks are led by head coach Jason Barnett who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 3-7 record in his first season at New Brockton. The Gamecocks saw improvement from a 0-10 record the season before coach Barnett arrived. The Gamecocks have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Barnett. Over the course of his career, Coach Barnett's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times .

Season Outlook:

The New Brockton Gamecocks will play in Class 4A region two during the 2024 season. The Gamecocks move up in classification to Class 4A. They may find the going slightly tougher with the move.

The Gamecocks have not made the playoffs since 2019 but have a better shot this season with the realignment of region 2.

Only two opponents on the Gamecock's 2024 schedule qualified for the playoffs last season. In Region 2 only one team, 3A Straughn, won more games than they lost last season. This will be one wide open region race until November. Can the Gamecoacks improve enough to grab one of those four playoff spots in 2024?

This season, the Gamecocks will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region two.

Players to Watch in 2024:
QB Dawson Peacock will be returning for his junior season after completing 52-of-100 passes for 855 yards and 10 TDs last season.

OLB Bryant Crumpler collected 93 tackles (17 solo) and will be back for his junior season in 2023.

Returning Starters:
WR/SS Baylon Foster, WR/FS Anthony Silar, MLB/FB Jared Petitt, WR/FS Anthony Silar

Season Opener:
The Gamecocks open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Pike Liberal Arts on Friday, August 23 at Dewight Ward Field. Last year the Pike Liberal Arts Patriots finished with an overall record of 3-6 and in place in Class Ind region twelve. The Patriots ended last season on a positive note with a win over Calhoun by a score of 43-18 after failing to gain a playoff spot.
