 2024 Preview

Oxford completed the 2023 season with a 9-3 record. With their 5-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 6A region six, the Yellow Jackets earned a spot in the playoffs in 2023. Oxford reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Parker by a score of 21-14.

Since 2010, Oxford has gone a combined 121-49. Their 71.2% winning percentage ranks 10th in Class 6A over the past fourteen seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Oxford has managed to compile a record of 192-97. Their 66.0% winning percentage ranks 12th in Class 6A and 61st in the AHSAA. The Yellow Jackets have been successful on the football field with twenty-one winning seasons during this time.

Head Coach:
The Yellow Jackets are led by head coach Sam Adams who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 21-14 over the past three seasons at Oxford. Under his direction the Yellow Jackets have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have won one region crown with Coach Adams. Over the course of his career, Coach Adams' teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of nine times and won three region championships.

Season Outlook:

The Oxford Yellow Jackets will play in Class 6A region six during the 2024 season.

In 2024 the Yellow Jackets will face seven teams that qualified for the playoffs last year. They open the season against one of the better teams in Georgia with Central Carrollton on the road. The very next week they entertain an excellent Moody team. Their other non-region opponents are Helena and 7A Florence. Their schedule ranks among one of the more difficult in the state in 2024.

The Jackets will welcome back seven starters from last season on offense and another seven starters back on defense. This will be a veteran squad after putting a young team on the field the past two seasons.

Quarterback Mason Mims will lead the charges on offense while the defense will be headed up by linebacker Kennan Britt. Look for another great season in Oxford from the Yellow Jackets.

Coach Adams tells us the team has ''A lot of experience returning from a strong 2023 season.''

The Yellow Jackets are considered one of the favorites for the region six championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Yellow Jackets have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 2015 and expect to be included again when November rolls around.

Players to Watch in 2024:
Mason Mims will be back after completing 205-of-288 passes for 2,670 yards and 29 TDs last season.

RB Damious Wilson will be returning for his senior season after rushing for 794 yards and 9 TDs last season. WR Nick Richardson will also be back after catching 50 passes for 883 yards and 12 TDs.

DT Keenan Britt had 101 tackles (26 solo) and 8 sacks as a sophomore in 2023.

Returning Starters:
OFFENSE: WR Nick Richardson, TE/WR Nick Hampton, QB Mason Mims, RB/WR DK Wilson, OL Reshad Cunningham, OL Jayden Taylor, OL Markevion Conley
DEFENSE: DL Keenan Britt, DL Caleb Tinner, DL PJ Watkins, LB James Tapley, LB Desmon Whitson, LB Jiyez Fleming, DB Cedric Twyman
NEWCOMERS: WR Jaylin Taylor

Season Opener:
The Yellow Jackets open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Central Carrollton GA on Friday, August 23.
