 2024 Preview

Washington County completed the 2023 season with a 4-7 record. With their 2-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 2A region one, the Bulldogs earned a spot in the playoffs in 2023. Washington County's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to B.B. Comer by a score of 49-0.

It marked the first time since the 2016 season that the Bulldogs qualified for the playoffs.

Since 2010, Washington County has gone a combined 90-72. Their 55.6% winning percentage ranks 17th in Class 2A over the past fourteen seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Washington County has managed to compile a record of 175-115. Their 60.0% winning percentage ranks 11th in Class 2A and 97th in the AHSAA.

Head Coach:
The Bulldogs are led by head coach Johnny Carpenter who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 5-16 over the past two seasons at Washington County. Under his direction the Bulldogs have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Carpenter. Over the course of his career, Coach Carpenter's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times .

Season Outlook:

The Washington County Bulldogs will play in Class 2A region one during the 2024 season.

The Bulldogs saw some improvement the past three seasons as they scored more points and allowed fewer each year. They even reached the playoffs last year for the first time since 2016. Can Coach Carpenter build on the recent success and get Washington county to being the championship program they were in 2015?

The Bulldogs should be much improved with nineteen starters back to this year's team.

The Bulldogs could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region one this season with a few breaks and a little improvement.

Season Opener:
The Bulldogs open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Cottage Hill Christian on Friday, August 23 at Kingdom Stadium. Last year the Cottage Hill Christian Warriors finished with an overall record of 2-8 and in seventh place in Class 3A region one. The Warriors ended last season on a positive note with a win over St. Lukes by a score of 25-13 after failing to gain a playoff spot.

Washington County and Cottage Hill Christian have met a total of 3 times on the football field. The Bulldogs have a 1-2-0 record against the Warriors. They last met in 2019 with Cottage Hill Christian winning by a score of 54-48.
