2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
West Limestone completed the 2023 season with a 5-5 record. Last year West Limestone finished sixth in Class 4A region seven with a 2-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. Since 2010, West Limestone has gone a combined 86-66. Their 56.6% winning percentage ranks 19th in Class 4A over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, West Limestone has managed to compile a record of 116-146. Their 44.0% winning percentage ranks 46th in Class 4A and 236th in the AHSAA. Head Coach: The Wildcats are led by head coach Shelby Davis who is entering his seventh season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 35-28 over the past six seasons at West Limestone. Under his direction the Wildcats have qualified for the playoffs once. They have won one region crown with Coach Davis. Season Outlook: The West Limestone Wildcats will play in Class 4A region seven during the 2024 season. West Limestone has high hopes of breaking the streak of three consecutive 5-5 seasons in 2024. They have been one victory away from a playoff spot each of those seasons. Is this the year they get over that hump and get close to the 11-2 record of 2020? If things go as planned it could be a very good season at West Limestone. The Wildcats return five starters on offense and seven on defense according to Coach Shelby Davis. He also has a cast of young players he hopes will contribute early in the season. Region seven will be very competitive in 2024 with the likes of Brooks, Deshler and West Morgan competing for that top spot. If the Wildcats can get past Central and Hatton they may just grab that fourth playoff spot. The Wildcats could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region seven this season with a few breaks and a little improvement. West Limestone has failed to qualify for the playoffs since 2020 but hope to return to the post season this year. LB Preston Moore collected 80 tackles (38 solo) and will be back for his senior season. Returning Starters: LB Preston Moore RB/LB Travis McCluskey, WR Dawson Mewbourn, WR/OLB JT Winter, WR/LB JT Winter NEWCOMERS: Preston Moore, Dawson Mewbourn, Brady Crawford, JT Winter, Trey McWilliams Season Opener: The Wildcats open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Clements on Friday, August 23 at James Kennemer Stadium. Last year the Clements Colts finished with an overall record of 5-5 and in fifth place in Class 3A region eight. West Limestone and Clements have met a total of 59 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 35-24-0 record against the Colts. They last met in 2023 with West Limestone winning by a score of 29-26. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
