 2024 Preview 


       West Morgan completed the 2023 season with a 12-1 record. The Rebels cruised through the regular season with a perfect 10-0 record going into the post season. Last year West Morgan captured the region seven title and a number one seed in the Class 4A playoffs. They finished region play with a 7-0 record. It was the first region championship for the Rebels since the 2017 season. West Morgan lost in the quarter-finals of the playoffs last season to a good Cherokee County team by a score of 28-27.

       No team at West Morgan ever won more games in a season than the twelve victories last year. The 663 points scored by the Rebels last year were a team record in a single season.

       The high-scoring West Morgan offense ranked 2nd in the AHSAA. They averaged 51.0 points a game.

       Over the past two seasons the Rebels have Finished 22-3 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. Since 2010, West Morgan has gone a combined 62-86. Their 41.9% winning percentage ranks 46th in Class 4A over the past fourteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, West Morgan has managed to compile a record of 146-127. Their 54.0% winning percentage ranks 24th in Class 4A and 137th in the AHSAA.

Graduated All-State Players:
       The Rebels lost a ton of talent to graduation off the 2023 squad. Replacing these players will be a key to another successful season. West Morgan lost 4A All-State  receiver TiAirrius Mosley to graduation. He was named to the first team last season. Also graduating were teammates offensive lineman Melvin Carrillo, linebacker Shamarvion Mosley, athlete Jalen Fletcher and quarterback Braxton Peters.

Head Coach:
       The Rebels are led by head coach Drew Phillips who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 27-8 over the past three seasons at West Morgan. Under his direction the Rebels have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have won one region crown with Coach Phillips.

Season Outlook:

       The West Morgan Rebels will play in Class 4A region seven during the 2024 season.

      

       The Rebels enter the 2024 season riding a 14 game regular season winning streak.

       West Morgan will open the 2024 football season without returning starters at quarterback, running back and receiver. And these three were not just starters, they were the nucleus of the offense last season. They graduated 17 seniors from last year's team, including nine who signed to play college football.

       The Rebels of West Morgan will need to find a replacement for graduated quarterback Braxton Peters in August if they have hopes of repeating the success of last season. They must also find a replacement for departed running back Jalen Fletcher who ran for over 1,500 yards last year. Ti'Airrius Mosley also graduated with his 1,300 yards receiving.

       Coach Drew Phillips will be seeing a lot of new faces when August rolls around. The Rebels will be looking to players like Sophomore quarterback Titan Partlow and senior running back/linebackers Ty Jones and Jaylen McGuire to fill some of the gaps left by graduation.

       The Rebels want to prove that last season was not just a one time deal and they have a program that can and will compete in 4A each and every season.

    The Rebels are considered one of the favorites for the region seven championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs.

      MLB Ty Jones collected 132 tackles (72 solo) and will be back for his senior season.

Season Opener:
       The Rebels open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Randolph on Friday, August 23 at SportsMed Field. Last year the Randolph Raiders finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in second place in Class 4A region eight. The Raiders lost in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs to Corner by a score of 42-21.

       West Morgan and Randolph have met a total of 5 times on the football field. The Rebels have a 3-2-0 record against the Raiders. They last met in 2023 with West Morgan winning by a score of 41-20.

  


Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

Parrish scored a record 77 points in a playoff game against Cedar Bluff in 2001. The Tornados were shutout the following week 19-0 by Courtland.
