Addison is always on the fence about 1A/2A. I personally hope they stay 1A because it is always easier being a big 1A than a small 2A. |

At this point it is an absolute guess as to which teams move up or down. It won't be long and we will get a look at the actual enrollment numbers and then we can begin to make projections.

Gonna say Mars Hill will be moving up to 4A and make that deep region even deeper. Is it possible to jump 2 classes of they win again this year?
As far as public schools go I don't really know anything. Just have to watch some of those schools that tend to dabble in 2 classes more often than others like Austin or Fyffe. |

You can only move up one class each reclass due to competitive balance.

I know both West Morgan and Deshler were in the top 5 for largest 4A schools last cycle, so they will probably move up to 5A once the season ends. |

I can help with private schools moving up or down.
Moving up will be (no matter what they do this year): Mars Hill Catholic Montgomery Tuscaloosa Academy Houston Academy
All these schools reached the title game last year earning four points. If a school earns 4+ points over the 2024-25 seasons they move up. They can only move up one classification no matter what else happens.
Schools who could move up if they reach the semifinals this year: St. Michael
Plus any school who reaches the championship game this year will be moving up.
Schools who could move down a classification if they do not reach the quarterfinals this year: Coosa Christian St. James Mobile Christian
Schools who could move down a classification if they do not reach the second round of the playoffs this year: Madison Academy St. Paul's
I believe all this to be correct. Also a team in that last group could stay where they are if enrollment increases enough.
If you think I am wrong on any of these let me know or if I missed any schools. Any questions let me know.

Disclaimer all of this is just what coaches and people close to these programs belive have told me or have heard.
Arab expects to stay 5A Brewer is preparing like they're going 6A Scottsboro to 6A (others expect this haven't heard anyone from Scottsboro claim this) My best guess West Morgan to 5A Fyffe to 2A Asbury to 4A Susan Moore to 3A Austin and Florence to 6A Hazel Green and Buckhorn to 7A |

Word on the street Fyffe folks think they drop back down to 2A.

Brutal. If Madison Academy goes back down to 3A, it's only for two years. Like Arnold, they'll be back. The last time they dropped to 3A they had an average score of 53 - 8 throughout an undefeated regular season. And look who they lost to in the Super 7 game...Mobile Christian, another who may move back down.
Calling it early. If they both move down, those are the 2026 3A title game favorites. |

I heard Sulligent could be moving to 1A and Carbon Hill to 2A. |

Here are my thoughts Cody. I can look at past history of all the schools and use past enrollment numbers to project whether schools are growing or decreasing in enrollment using the numbers from the past 6 years.
Arab - should remain 5A easily. Brewer - very well could be 6A Scottsboro - They should remain in 5A. Would need to pass 6 schools to move up. But possible if their enrollment takes a big jump which it has not in recent year. West Morgan - Very likely to move to 5A. Fyffe - They will likely stay in 3A. Enrollment was 217 two years ago and cutoff for 2A is about 197. Asbury - It is possible to move to 4A. On the bubble. Susan Moore - Very possible. Again on the bubble. Austin - Most likely 7A again. Would need to lose 80 in enrollment and not likely. Florence - Very, very possible along with Opelika. Hazel Green - Very likely as they have been growing in enrollment in recent years. Most likely team to move to 7A. Buckhorn - Not likely unless they gain about 140 in enrollment which the school has not been gaining nearly that many students the past 6 years.
Hope this helps.

Likely for Sulligent looking at the numbers. Carbon Hill would have to lose about 1/4th of their students to move down to 2A. I don't think that would happen. They had 266 last reclassification and the cutoff line for 2A is about 197.

Oh...Dear...Lord...
Anyway, thanks for the clarification on private schools only jumping up one class. I couldn't think of an example off the top of my head when I posted about a school winning back to back titles within the same reclassification. But now I guess I could have just looked up Bayside Academy's volleyball program and saw they never jump but one class. |

I believe that a school has to get more than 4 points to move up. So those 4 schools would have to reach the 2nd round to have more than 4 points. Since Mars Hill and Catholic have already been promoted, they have achieved enough point to remain in their current class no matter what.
St. Michael would have to reach the title game to move up.
The rest is correct.

One thing to consider with reclassification- some of the school districts are adding career tech schools which pulls some of the normal enrollment numbers from other high schools in that district. |

I'm interested to see what happens with Clay-Chalkville. They looked like they might go to 7A before but actually dropped down the list from second largest 6A school to around #7-8 in this latest reclassification period.
If they move up, maybe Hewitt will be forced to play us again after turning tail 10 years ago. |

Actually CCHS is the #3 largest 6A school. I don?t know what their AHSAA count will be but I recently heard they have around 1400 total in school this year. I believe it?s an increase from 2024 but no idea how it breaks down per grade which is obviously the most important number.
The cut off for 7A last time was around 1097 and I think it mostly increases slightly every time. Here is the top 10 for 6A.
6A Hazel Green High School 1,090.00 Spain Park High School 1,086.70 Clay-Chalkville High School 1,083.55 Helena High School 1,062.65 Percy Julian High School 1016.65 Homewood High School 1,001.85 Gadsden City High School 993.75 Buckhorn High School 993.5 Athens High School 989.5 Mountain Brook High School 979.55
Some of the schools on this list are growing substantially due to population increases while others are fairly level. In B?ham areas like Homewood and Mountain Brook are land locked with little growth but places like Helena and neighborhoods that feed Spain Park have a lot of new construction and increasing population so it stands to reason their numbers will increase. I think Pinson and areas nearby that are zoned for CCHS also have some growth just maybe not quite the level of Helena and Hoover. You?ll probably be closer to 7A this time and Clay-Chalkville has shown they can certainly play at that level.

They should sort teams by more than just how many students a school has. Gaston was moved from 1A where they were doing ok, up to 2A where they are lucky to win 1 game a year. |
