John Simpkins
John Simpkins graduated from Jackson High School in southwest Alabama. He received his degree from Auburn University.
Simpkins coached football, baseball and basketball for 35 years during his tenure as a teacher and coach. He spent 31 seasons at his alma mater, Jackson, where his football teams compiled a 121-104-18 record over his 26 seasons as a head football coach.
His 31 year baseball record was 310-124 while his basketball teams posted a 120-90 mark in 18 seasons. Simpkins was vice-president of the state coaches association and coached in the Alabama All-Star football game in Tuscaloosa. He also coached four years at Leroy.
Simpkins was inducted into the Alabama High School Athletic Associations Hall of Fame in 1994.
