 2016 Preview 


       Last year Abbeville finished fifth in Class 3A region 2 with a 2-4 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

       Since 2010, Abbeville has gone a combined 30-33. Their 48.0% winning percentage ranks 31st in Class 2A over the past six seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Abbeville has managed to compile a record of 114-150. Their 43.0% winning percentage ranks 37th in Class 2A and 252nd in the AHSAA.

       The Yellow Jackets are led by head coach Robin Tyra who is entering his second season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 5-15 over the past two seasons at Abbeville. The Yellow Jackets have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Tyra.

       Coach Tyra's overall record as a head football coach in eight seasons stands at 27-56 (32.5%). Over the course of his career, Coach Tyra's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times .

      

      The Abbeville Yellow Jackets will play in Class 2A region 2 during the 2016 season. The Yellow Jackets may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class 3A to 2A. They will compete in region 2 this year.

       The Yellow Jackets have a good chance to earn one of the playoff slots for Region 2 this season.

       The Yellow Jackets open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Ashford on Friday, August 26 at W.H. Brown Field. Last year the Ashford Yellow Jackets finished with an overall record of 3-7 and in seventh place in Class 4A region 2. The closed out the regular season with a loss to OPEN by a score of 999-999.

       Abbeville and Ashford have met a total of 48 times on the football field. The Yellow Jackets have a 22-23-3 record against the Yellow Jackets. They last met in 2018 with Abbeville winning by a score of 22-15.
