 2016 Preview 


       Last year Ashford finished seventh in Class 4A region 2 with a 2-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

       Since 2010, Ashford has gone a combined 34-29. Their 54.0% winning percentage ranks 27th in Class 4A over the past six seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Ashford has managed to compile a record of 141-122. Their 54.0% winning percentage ranks 19th in Class 4A and 145th in the AHSAA.

       The Yellow Jackets are led by head coach Mitch Sellers who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 20-22 over the past four seasons at Ashford. Under his direction the Yellow Jackets have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Sellers.

       Coach Sellers's overall record as a head football coach in four seasons stands at 20-22 (47.6%). Over the course of his career, Coach Sellers's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times .

      

      The Ashford Yellow Jackets will play in Class 4A region 2 during the 2016 season.

       It will be an uphill battle for the Yellow Jackets if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in Region 2 this season.

       The Yellow Jackets open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Rehobeth on Friday, August 19 at W.F. Andrews Field. Last year the Rehobeth Rebels finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in fifth place in Class 5A region 2. The closed out the regular season with a loss to OPEN by a score of 999-999.

       Ashford and Rehobeth have met a total of 76 times on the football field. The Yellow Jackets have a 43-31-2 record against the Rebels. They last met in 2021 with Rehobeth winning by a score of 16-6.

       Ashford returns 4A All-State Senior athlete Stevonte Tullis. He was named to the second team last season.

The first night game played between high school teams in the state occurred on September 23, 1927 when Pike Road and Cloverdale met in the Cramton Bowl in Montgomery.
