 2016 Preview 


       Last year Appalachian finished seventh in Class 1A region 5 with a 0-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.  The defense allowed a team record 431 points last season.

       The Eagles would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 2-18 record. Since 2010, Appalachian has gone a combined 23-36. Their 39.0% winning percentage ranks 37th in Class 1A over the past six seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Appalachian has managed to compile a record of 116-147. Their 44.0% winning percentage ranks 34th in Class 1A and 248th in the AHSAA.

       The Eagles are led by head coach Zack Jones who is entering his first season at the helm. His team finished with a 1-9 record in his first season at Appalachian. The Eagles have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Jones.

       Coach Jones's overall record as a head football coach in one seasons stands at 1-9 (10.0%).

      

      The Appalachian Eagles will play in Class 1A region 4 during the 2016 season. Following realignment, the Eagles remain in 1A but move from region 5 over to region 4.

       This season, the Eagles will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in Region 4.

       The Eagles open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Southeastern on Friday, August 19 . Last year the Southeastern Mustangs finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in seventh place in Class 2A region 6. The closed out the regular season with a loss to Cleveland by a score of 61-8.

       Appalachian and Southeastern have met a total of 11 times on the football field. The Eagles have a 6-5-0 record against the Mustangs. They last met in 2022 with Southeastern winning by a score of 1-0.
