 2016 Preview 


       With their 3-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 1A region 3, the Bears earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. Billingsley reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Georgiana by a score of 28-0.

       Averaging over ten wins a season since 2010, Billingsley has gone a combined 42-27. Their 61.0% winning percentage ranks 12th in Class 2A over the past six seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Billingsley has managed to compile a record of 174-116. Their 60.0% winning percentage ranks 11th in Class 2A and 93rd in the AHSAA.

       The Bears are led by head coach Tyson McLean who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 39-20 over the past five seasons at Billingsley. Under his direction the Bears have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times. They have won one region crown with Coach McLean.

       Coach McLean's overall record as a head football coach in five seasons stands at 39-20 (66.1%). Over the course of his career, Coach McLean's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times and won one region championship.

      

      The Billingsley Bears will play in Class 2A region 4 during the 2016 season. The Bears move up in classification to Class 2A. They may find the going slightly tougher with the move.

       The Bears have a good chance to earn one of the playoff slots for Region 4 this season.

       The Bears open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Jemison on Friday, September 2 at Panther Stadium. Last year the Jemison Panthers finished with an overall record of 2-7 and in seventh place in Class 5A region 4. The closed out the regular season with a loss to OPEN by a score of 999-999.

       Billingsley and Jemison have met a total of 23 times on the football field. The Bears have a 9-13-1 record against the Panthers. They last met in 2016 with Jemison winning by a score of 48-26.

       Billingsley returns 1A All-State Senior running back Derrick Dunigan. He was named to the second team last season. The Bears also return Senior defensive lineman Jeffery Lee. He was named to the first team. The Bears also return Senior punter Landon Reed. He was named to the honorable mention team.
