2016 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Last year Elba captured the region 3 title and a number one seed in the Class 2A playoffs. They finished region play with a 7-0 record. The Tigers reeled off five straight playoff wins to capture the Class 2A State Championship in 2015 by defeating Fyffe at the Alabama Super Seven 36-22 in Tuscaloosa. Over the past two seasons the Tigers have gone 28-2 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. Averaging over ten wins a season since 2010, Elba has gone a combined 67-13. Their 84.0% winning percentage ranks 3rd in Class 2A over the past six seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Elba has managed to compile a record of 172-117. Their 60.0% winning percentage ranks 12th in Class 2A and 91st in the AHSAA. The Tigers are led by head coach Ed Rigby who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 35-6 over the past three seasons at Elba. Under his direction the Tigers have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have won two region crowns with Coach Rigby. Coach Rigby's overall record as a head football coach in three seasons stands at 35-6 (85.4%). Over the course of his career, Coach Rigby's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times and won two region championships. The Tigers enter the 2016 season having won 16 straight region games. The Elba Tigers will play in Class 2A region 3 during the 2016 season. The Tigers enter the season with expectations of not only a region title but reaching the state championship game. They are considered one the favorites in region 3 and should be a team in the thick of the hunt to represent the South in the Class 2A Super Seven come December. The Tigers open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Pike County on Friday, August 26 at Tiger Stadium. Last year the Pike County Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 9-2 and in second place in Class 3A region 2. The Bulldogs lost in the second round of the Class 3A playoffs to T.R. Miller by a score of 49-8. Elba and Pike County have met a total of 37 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 22-15-0 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in 2016 with Elba winning by a score of 36-22. Elba returns 2A All-State Junior punter Grant Akridge. He was named to the first team last season. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
