Last year G.W. Long captured the region 2 title and a number one seed in the Class 2A playoffs. They finished region play with a 7-0 record. G.W. Long made a nice playoff run in 2015, reaching the semi-finals before falling to a very good Elba team by the score of 24-7. Over the past two seasons the Rebels have gone 23-2 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. Averaging over ten wins a season since 2010, G.W. Long has gone a combined 57-14. Their 80.0% winning percentage ranks 5th in Class 2A over the past six seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, G.W. Long has managed to compile a record of 154-120. Their 56.0% winning percentage ranks 14th in Class 2A and 120th in the AHSAA. The Rebels are led by head coach Scott Horne who is entering his seventh season at the helm. The Rebels should be considered one of the favorites for the Region 2 championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Rebels open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Dale County on Friday, August 26 at Warrior Stadium. Last year the Dale County Warriors finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in sixth place in Class 3A region 2. The closed out the regular season with a loss to OPEN by a score of 999-999. G.W. Long and Dale County have met a total of 14 times on the football field. The Rebels have a 7-7-0 record against the Warriors. They last met in 2023 with G.W. Long winning by a score of 62-25. G.W.
