 2016 Preview 


       Last year Section finished sixth in Class 2A region 7 with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

       Since 2010, Section has gone a combined 22-38. Their 37.0% winning percentage ranks 39th in Class 2A over the past six seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Section has managed to compile a record of 99-160. Their 38.0% winning percentage ranks 42nd in Class 2A and 297th in the AHSAA.

       The Lions are led by head coach Drew Davis who is entering his first season at the helm. His team finished with a 1-9 record in his first season at Section. The Lions have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Davis.

       Coach Davis's overall record as a head football coach in one seasons stands at 1-9 (10.0%).

      

      The Section Lions will play in Class 2A region 6 during the 2016 season. Following realignment, the Lions remain in 2A but move from region 7 over to region 6.

       It will be an uphill battle for the Lions if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in Region 6 this season.

       The Lions open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Pisgah on Friday, August 19 at Sam Kenimer Stadium. Last year the Pisgah Eagles finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in sixth place in Class 3A region 7. The closed out the regular season with a loss to Ashville by a score of 41-26.

       Section and Pisgah have met a total of 44 times on the football field. The Lions have a 11-33-0 record against the Eagles. They last met in 2023 with Pisgah winning by a score of 50-20.
