2016 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
St. John Paul II finished the 2015 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year St. John Paul II finished eighth in Class 5A region eight with a 1-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The defense allowed a team record 493 points last season. The Falcons have never qualified for a playoff spot and would love to break that streak this season. The Falcons have never won a playoff game in the school's history. They would like to break through and pick up that first post season victory in 2016. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as St. John Paul II averaged scoring just 10.7 points a game. The Falcons also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 49.3 points a game. The Falcons would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 1-19 record. St. John Paul II is a relatively new football program having fielded a team only four seasons. They have managed a record of 5-33 over the past four years. After only one season at the school, Elijah Asante is out as the head football coach. He led the Falcons to a 1-9 record last season. The lone win came as the result of a forfeit at the hands of J.O. Johnson. John Mumford moves from the college ranks to high school football at the school. The Lawrence, Kansas native played at Pittsburg State. He has coached at Louisiana-Monroe and Army most recently at the college level. The St. John Paul II Falcons will play in Class 5A region eight during the 2016 season. This season, the Falcons will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region eight. The Falcons open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent West Morgan on Friday, August 19 at Discovery Middle School. Last year the West Morgan Rebels finished with an overall record of 0-10 and in eighth place in Class 3A region eight. The Rebels closed out the regular season with a loss to East Lawrence by a score of 28-26. St. John Paul II and West Morgan have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Falcons have a 2-2-0 record against the Rebels. They last met in with | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
