2016 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Woodland finished the 2015 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Woodland finished sixth in Class 2A region five with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. Woodland took a step backwards last year with their first losing season since 2003. The Bobcats lost as many games as in any season since 2003. The Bobcats hope to rebound after a down year. Last season they struggled winning just two games which followed a 9-4 record in 2014. Woodland was inconsistent offensively last year and that needs to pick up if the Bobcats want to be competitive. They only averaged 19.6 points a game. Since 2010, Woodland has gone a combined 44-28. Their 61.0% winning percentage ranks 14th in Class 2A over the past six seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Woodland has managed to compile a record of 151-133. Their 53.0% winning percentage ranks 20th in Class 2A and 153rd in the AHSAA. The Bobcats are led by head coach Randy Boyd who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 11-12 over the past two seasons at Woodland. Under his direction the Bobcats have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Boyd. Coach Boyd's overall record as a head football coach in two season stands at 11-12 (47.8%). The Woodland Bobcats will play in Class 2A region five during the 2016 season. The Bobcats have one of the toughest schedules in Class 2A. Their opponents had a combined record of 62-49 last season. That ranks 7th in Class 2A and 86th in the AHSAA. It will be an uphill battle for the Bobcats if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region five this season. After just 2 wins last year, Woodland will be hoping to become more competitive in the region. The Bobcats open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Wadley on Thursday, August 25 at Curtis Lynch Stadium. Last year the Wadley Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 10-2 and in first place in Class 1A region five. The Bulldogs lost in the quarter-finals round of the Class 1A playoffs to Cedar Bluff by a score of 34-27. Woodland and Wadley have met a total of 80 times on the football field. The Bobcats have a 35-43-2 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in 2015 with Wadley winning by a score of 25-12. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
