2017 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
A.L. Johnson completed the 2016 season with a 4-6 record. Last year A.L. Johnson just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 1A region one with a 3-4 region record. Since 2010, A.L. Johnson has gone a combined 33-39. Their 46.0% winning percentage ranks 27th in Class 1A over the past seven seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, A.L. Johnson has managed to compile a record of 128-134. Their 49.0% winning percentage ranks 29th in Class 1A and 210th in the AHSAA. The A.L. Johnson Eagles will play in Class 1A region one during the 2017 season. The Eagles will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region one this season. A.L. Johnson came up short of the playoffs last year but are optimistic of a return to the post season this year. A.L. Johnson simply does not have the numbers to be competitive on the football field at this time. With just 56 students, the Eagles are one of the smallest schools playing the game and have little chance of being successful. The Eagles open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent R.C. Hatch on Friday, August 25 at Bobcat Stadium. Last year the R.C. Hatch Bobcats finished with an overall record of 5-6 and in fourth place in Class 2A region four. The Bobcats lost in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs to Elba by a score of 40-8. A.L. Johnson and R.C. Hatch have met a total of 20 times on the football field. The Eagles have a 12-8-0 record against the Bobcats. They last met in 2016 with R.C. Hatch winning by a score of 12-6. A.L. Johnson returns 1A All-State Senior punter Johnny Robertson. He was named to the second team last season. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
