 2022 Preview 


       Vigor completed the 2021 season with a 14-1 record. Last year Vigor captured the region one title and a number one seed in the Class 4A playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-0 record. The Wolves reeled off five straight playoff wins to claim the Class 4A State Championship by defeating Oneonta at the Alabama Super Seven 52-14 in Birmingham.

       The Wolves won as many games as in any season since 2008. The Wolves hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach Cook saw improvement as they won fourteen games following a 5-5 record in 2020.

       The defense was very stingy last season as Vigor ranked 21st in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 12.1 points a game.

       Since 2010, Vigor has gone a combined 95-52. Their 64.6% winning percentage ranks 13th in Class 5A over the past twelve seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Vigor has gone a combined 205-97. Their 68.0% winning percentage ranks 7th in Class 5A and 44th in the AHSAA. The Wolves have been successful on the football field with twenty-one winning seasons during this time.




       The Wolves will be under the direction of new head football coach Markus Cook as they enter the 2022 season.  Coach Cook served as an assistant coach at Vigor last season.

       The wolves must replace several key skilled players but the basis for another great team is there for the new head coach.

       The Vigor Wolves will play in Class 5A region one during the 2022 season. The Wolves move up in classification to Class 5A. They may find the going slightly tougher with the move.

       The Wolves enter the 2022 season having won 9 straight region games.

       The Wolves should be in contention for a playoff spot in region one this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game. They have reached the playoffs every year since 2013 and will once again be in the hunt for a spot in 2022.

       The Wolves open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Blount on Friday, August 19 at Harris-Terry Stadium. Last year the Blount Leopards finished with an overall record of 3-7 and in sixth place in Class 6A region one.

       Vigor and Blount have met a total of 52 times on the football field. The Wolves have a 38-14-0 record against the Leopards. They last met in 2021 with Vigor winning by a score of 22-13.

       Vigor returns 4A All-State Junior linebacker Brandon Purifoy. He was named to the first team last season. The Wolves also return Junior running back Jacori Barnes. He was named to the honorable mention team. The Wolves also return Senior defensive lineman Michael Towner. He was named to the first team.
