 2023 Preview 


       Arab completed the 2022 season with a 11-2 record. Last year Arab captured the region seven title and a number one seed in the Class 5A playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-0 record. It was the first region championship for the Arabian Knights since the 1993 season. Arab lost in the quarter-finals of the playoffs last season to a good Pleasant Grove team by a score of 41-38.

       No team at Arab ever won more games in a season than the eleven victories last year. The 513 points scored by the Arabian Knights last year were a team record in a single season.

       The defense was very stingy last season as Arab ranked 34th in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 14.5 points a game.

       Since 2010, Arab has gone a combined 69-71. Their 49.3% winning percentage ranks 23rd in Class 5A over the past thirteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Arab has managed to compile a record of 102-159. Their 39.0% winning percentage ranks 43rd in Class 5A and 298th in the AHSAA.




       The Arabian Knights are led by head coach Lee Ozmint who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 30-15 over the past four seasons at Arab. Under his direction the Arabian Knights have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have won one region crown with Coach Ozmint. His 107 wins rank 55th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Ozmint's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of ten times and won two region championships.

       Coach Ozmint has the Knights on the right track after possibly the most successful season in school history.

       The Arabian Knights enter the 2023 season having won 7 straight region games.

       The Arabian Knights should be in contention for a playoff spot in region seven this season. Hosting a first round playoff game on their home turf would be an advantage.

       The Arabian Knights open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent Albertville on Thursday, August 24 at Arab City Schools Sports Complex. Last year the Albertville Aggies finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in eighth place in Class 7A region four. The Aggies closed out the regular season with a loss to Guntersville by a score of 49-7.

       Arab and Albertville have met a total of 85 times on the football field. The Arabian Knights have a 34-47-4 record against the Aggies. They last met in 2022 with Arab winning by a score of 47-14.

       Arab lost 5A All-State  running back Drake Franklin to graduation. He was named to the second team last season. Also graduating were teammates defensive lineman Will Caneer and linebacker Josh Roe.

In 1970 Monroe Academy won the first championship in the A.I.S.A. by defeating Lowndes Academy 6-0.
