 2024 Preview

Albertville finished the 2023 season with a disappointing 0-10 record. Last year Albertville finished eighth in Class 7A region four with a 0-7 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

The Aggies lost as many games as in any season since 2004. The Aggies last playoff victory came during the 2002 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win.

The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Albertville averaged scoring just 9.1 points a game. The Aggies also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 43.9 points a game.

The Aggies would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 1-19 record. Since 2010, Albertville has gone a combined 56-88. Their 38.9% winning percentage ranks 26th in Class 7A over the past fourteen seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Albertville has managed to compile a record of 92-167. Their 36.0% winning percentage ranks 27th in Class 7A and 310th in the AHSAA.

Head Coach:
The Aggies are led by head coach Bert Browne who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 0-10 record in his first season at Albertville. The Aggies have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Browne.

Coach Browne's overall record as a head football coach in Alabama for one  stands at 0-10 (%).

Season Outlook:

The Albertville Aggies will play in Class 7A region four during the 2024 season.

The Aggies enter the 2024 season in the middle of a 18 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season.

The Aggies in Albertville have no where to go but up in 2024. They have won just four games in as many seasons but hopes are high that everything will start to change for second year coach Bert Browne this season.

The returning group of athletes will be better than in the past few seasons and the product on the field should be much better in Browne's second season at the helm of the Aggies. They return seven starters to the offense including freshman quarterback CJ Zuniga and Hunter Smith. On defense the Aggies welcome back six players who started at least some games this past season.

Coach Browne told AHSFHS.org ''Look for a lot of up and coming talent who got to make some starts last year as freshman and sophomores to make the leap in a permanent starting role. Two-way starters such as Hunter Smith, Djovani JeanPierre, Cooper Scott, and Des Revolte will be the heartbeat of the team''.

This season, the Aggies will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region four. After not winning a single game last year, the goal at Albertville will be to simply win some games.

Players to Watch in 2024:
Hunter Smith returns at WR after catching 50 passes for 609 yards and scoring 6 TDs as a junior last season.

Returning Starters:
OFFENSE: Freshman QB CJ Zuniga, Senior WR Hunter Smith, Junior WR Cooper Scott, Junior WR Des Revolte, Junior TE Djovani JeanPierre, Junior OL Kolton Battles, Junior OL Judd Dalrymple
DEFENSE: Senior DE Jacob Laughlin, Junior CB Keegan Thompson, Senior FS Hunter Smith, Senior LB Jordan Loredo, Junior LB Jessy Gonzalez, Junior SS/LB Peyton Jones
NEWCOMERS: Sophomore WR/RB Rashun Tatum, Sophomore WR Brandt Sweatt, Sophomore WR Tay Prater, Junior DL Bryan Ferdinand, Junior LB Mason Frolick

Season Opener:
The Aggies open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Arab on Thursday, August 22 at Vernon Wells Stadium. Last year the Arab Knights finished with an overall record of 8-3 and in third place in Class 5A region seven. The Knights lost in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs to Leeds by a score of 33-7.

Albertville and Arab have met a total of 84 times on the football field. The Aggies have a 46-34-4 record against the Knights. They last met in 2023 with Arab winning by a score of 34-6.

Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

In 1969 the two point conversion was adopted for play following a touchdown. Until that time all conversions were worth one point.
