 2024 Preview 


       Arab completed the 2023 season with a 8-3 record. With their 4-1 region record and a third place finish in Class 5A region seven, the Knights earned a spot in the playoffs in 2023. Arab's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Leeds by a score of 33-7.

       Since 2010, Arab has gone a combined 77-74. Their 51.0% winning percentage ranks 24th in Class 5A over the past fourteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Arab has managed to compile a record of 110-152. Their 42.0% winning percentage ranks 44th in Class 5A and 287th in the AHSAA.

Graduated All-State Players:
       Arab lost 5A All-State  linebacker Logan Silva to graduation. He was named to the honorable mention team last season.

Coaching Change:
     Lee Ozmint  leaves Arab after five successful seasons with a record of 38-18. He was dismissed from the school this spring.

2024 Head Coach:
    Kyle Routon  was promoted to the heads coaching position at Arab following the dismissal of Coach Ozmint. He has been very successful as the wrestling coach winning many awards ands a state championship. Routon, a Southside native and Jacksonville State University graduate, began his coaching career at Southside Gadsden. He served as head wrestling coach and assistant football coach at Southside. He also was head softball coach for one season. Routon next went to Oxford where he spent two seasons as the head wrestling coach and assistant football coach.

Season Outlook:

       The Arab Knights will play in Class 5A region eight during the 2024 season. Following realignment, the Knights remain in 5A but move from region seven over to region eight.

      

       Arab enters the 2024 season with a string of 9 consecutive wins on their home field at Arab City Schools Sports Complex.

       The Knights will enter the 2024 football season having qualified for the playoffs in each of the past four seasons with a winning record. At most schools that would not be a great accomplishment but in Arab that is a school record. They did have a change in head coaches so time will tell if the Knights can build on their recent success on the field.

    The Knights should be in contention for a playoff spot in region eight this season. Hosting a first round playoff game on their home turf would be an advantage.

Season Opener:
       The Knights open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Albertville on Thursday, August 22 at Vernon Wells Stadium. Last year the Albertville Aggies finished with an overall record of 0-10 and in eighth place in Class 7A region four. The Aggies closed out the regular season with a loss to Guntersville by a score of 57-16.

       Arab and Albertville have met a total of 86 times on the football field. The Knights have a 35-47-4 record against the Aggies. They last met in 2023 with Arab winning by a score of 34-6.
