 2024 Preview 


       Alma Bryant finished the 2023 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Alma Bryant finished seventh in Class 7A region one with a 0-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

       The Hurricanes last playoff victory came during the 1999 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win.

       Alma Bryant was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Hurricanes want to be competitive. They only averaged 18.6 points a game.

       Since 2010, the Alma Bryant football program has struggled with a record of 30-112.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Alma Bryant has not won much with a record of 77-180. Their 30.0% winning percentage ranks 30th in Class 7A and 334th in the AHSAA. The Hurricanes have struggled on the football field with only three winning seasons during this time. Their last winning season was 2003.

Head Coach:
       The Hurricanes are led by head coach Bart Sessions who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 7-23 over the past three seasons at Alma Bryant. The Hurricanes have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Sessions. Over the course of his career, Coach Sessions' teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times and won two region championships.

Season Outlook:

       The Alma Bryant Hurricanes will play in Class 7A region one during the 2024 season.

      

       The Hurricanes have not won five games in any season since 2000. Could this be the year Coach Sessions gets Alma Bryant back to that old form?

       Alma Bryant will return six starters on offense and six on defense. They will rely of a few younger athletes to fill in the gaps and get that much needed experience early in the season. The Hurricanes open the season on the road at Baker and then host Fairhope on September 6th.

       Coach Sessions stated '' We are excited about the 2024 Season. Our team has worked extremely hard and we can see the difference in the athleticism in our team.''

    This season, the Hurricanes will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region one.

Season Opener:
       The Hurricanes open the 2024 season on the road against region opponent Baker on Friday, August 30 at Hornet Field. Last year the Baker Hornets finished with an overall record of 8-3 and in second place in Class 7A region one. The Hornets lost in the first round of the Class 7A playoffs to Auburn by a score of 27-17.

       Alma Bryant and Baker have met a total of 27 times on the football field. The Hurricanes have a 14-13-0 record against the Hornets. They last met in 2023 with Baker winning by a score of 35-6.
