 2024 Preview 


       East Limestone finished the 2023 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year East Limestone finished sixth in Class 5A region eight with a 2-4 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

       The Indians lost as many games as in any season since 2016. The defense allowed a team record 363 points last season.

       East Limestone struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 36.3 points a game.

       Since 2010, East Limestone has gone a combined 77-72. Their 51.7% winning percentage ranks 21st in Class 5A over the past fourteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, East Limestone has managed to compile a record of 152-122. Their 56.0% winning percentage ranks 15th in Class 5A and 139th in the AHSAA.

Coaching Change:
     Clint Woodfin  leaves East Limestone after just two seasons to accept an administrative position at Bob Jones High.

Season Outlook:

       The East Limestone Indians will play in Class 5A region seven during the 2024 season. Following realignment, the Indians remain in 5A but move from region eight over to region seven.

      

       After making the playoffs three consecutive seasons the Indians came up a little short last year. Can they get back to the post season in 2024 under third year coach Clint Woodfin? Time will tell.

       East Limestone may find the going a little tougher in Region 7 as they see Priceville joining the group so it will get a little crowded as the season progresses with only four playoff spots available.

       The Indians will return five starters from last season to the offense in 2024. They will also have the luxury of having seven back on defense. Several newcomers will be counted on to fill positions in August as the season opens.

    The Indians will need to win a few more games this fall if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region seven this season.

Players to Watch in 2024:
      QB Jake Cochran was 122 for 229 passing last season for 1,327 yards and 13 touchdowns. He will be back in 2024.

Season Opener:
       The Indians open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Westminster Christian on Friday, August 23 at Earl Van Dyke Stadium. Last year the Westminster Christian Wildcats finished with an overall record of 11-3 and in first place in Class 4A region eight. The Wildcats lost in the semi-finals round of the Class 4A playoffs to Cherokee County by a score of 50-6.

       This will be the second meeting between East Limestone and Westminster Christian on the football field. The Indians have a 0-1-0 record against the Wildcats. They last met in with

The first football game played by a high school team in Alabama was in 1892 when Central Birmingham (Phillips) lost to Alabama 56-0 on November 11.
