 2024 Preview 


       Hazel Green finished the 2023 season with a disappointing 0-10 record. Last year Hazel Green finished sixth in Class 6A region eight with a 0-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

       The Trojans lost as many games as in any season since 2008. The Trojans have never won a playoff game in the school's history. They would like to break through and pick up that first post season victory in 2024.

       The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Hazel Green averaged scoring just 11.8 points a game. The Trojans also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 41.3 points a game.

       The Trojans would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 4-17 record. Since 2010, Hazel Green has gone a combined 54-90. Their 37.5% winning percentage ranks 47th in Class 6A over the past fourteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Hazel Green has not won much with a record of 81-174. Their 32.0% winning percentage ranks 53rd in Class 6A and 327th in the AHSAA.

Coaching Change:
     Charlie Wilburn  will not be back with the Trojans in 2023 as the school will be seeking new leadership on the football field this season. After just two years and a 4-17 record Hazel Green will be looking for someone to finally post a winning season and win their first ever playoff game.

The Trojans have only enjoyed a single winning season over the past eleven years but hope those fortunes will be turned around soon.

2024 Head Coach:
    Fred Farrier  in his last coaching stop was an assistant coach at Alabama A&M where he coached the running backs. Farrier also spent time as the head coach of Kentucky State and Morgan State. Farrier played college football at Holy Cross where he was a receiver.

Season Outlook:

       The Hazel Green Trojans will play in Class 6A region eight during the 2024 season.

      

       The Trojans enter the 2024 season in the middle of a 13 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season.

       After a couple of promising seasons the Trojans went backwards in 2023 and finished the season with an 0-10 record. They will be out to improve on that this fall under new head coach Fred Farrier in his first season at the helm.

    This season, the Trojans will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region eight. After not winning a single game last year, the goal at Hazel Green will be to simply win some games.

Season Opener:
       The Trojans open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Huntsville on Friday, August 23 at Bob Grimwood Stadium. Last year the Huntsville Panthers finished with an overall record of 5-5 and in sixth place in Class 7A region four. The Panthers ended last season on a positive note with a win over Hazel Green by a score of 56-13 after failing to gain a playoff spot.

       Hazel Green and Huntsville have met a total of 19 times on the football field. The Trojans have a 5-14-0 record against the Panthers. They last met in 2023 with Huntsville winning by a score of 56-13.

  


Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

Parrish scored a record 77 points in a playoff game against Cedar Bluff in 2001. The Tornados were shutout the following week 19-0 by Courtland.
