 2024 Preview 


       Lawrence County completed the 2023 season with a 6-5 record. With their 4-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 5A region eight, the Red Devils earned a spot in the playoffs in 2023. Lawrence County's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Pleasant Grove by a score of 49-17.

       The Red Devils improved in 2023 with their first winning season since 2015. The Red Devils won as many games as in any season since 2015. It marked the first time since the 2020 season that the Red Devils qualified for the playoffs. The Red Devils last playoff victory came during the 2001 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win.

       Since 2010, Lawrence County has gone a combined 51-94. Their 35.2% winning percentage ranks 43rd in Class 5A over the past fourteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Lawrence County has managed to compile a record of 101-161. Their 38.0% winning percentage ranks 42nd in Class 5A and 280th in the AHSAA.

Graduated All-State Players:
       Lawrence County lost 5A All-State  offensive lineman Eli Long to graduation. He was named to the first team last season.

Head Coach:
       The Red Devils are led by head coach Trent Walker who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 9-22 over the past three seasons at Lawrence County. Under his direction the Red Devils have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Walker.

Season Outlook:

       The Lawrence County Red Devils will play in Class 5A region seven during the 2024 season. Following realignment, the Red Devils remain in 5A but move from region eight over to region seven.

      

       The six victories last season at Lawrence County are the most since the 2015 season. Coach Walker has increased the win total in each of his three seasons in Moulton. Can he continue to build on the recent success? Time will tell.

    The Red Devils have a good shot at one of the last two playoff slots in region seven this season.

Players to Watch in 2024:
      QB Parker Frost threw for 1,311 yards and 13 passing touchdowns last season. He also had 115 rushing and five TDs. He will be back in 2024. Braylon Dame collected 419 receiving yards and seven touchdowns.

      WR Brody Bean will also be back after having 366 receiving yards and scoring 5 TDs.

      On Defense returning will be Tripp Engle with 79 tackles, three interceptions and Kaden Norwood with 76 tackles, two tackles for loss and and interception.

Season Opener:
       The Red Devils open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent East Lawrence on Friday, August 23 at Red Devil Stadium. Last year the East Lawrence Eagles finished with an overall record of 2-8 and in seventh place in Class 4A region seven. The Eagles closed out the regular season with a loss to Hanceville by a score of 41-26.

       Lawrence County and East Lawrence have met a total of 39 times on the football field. The Red Devils have a 24-15-0 record against the Eagles. They last met in 2017 with Lawrence County winning by a score of 58-7.
