 2024 Preview 


       Munford finished the 2023 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year Munford just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 4A region four with a 2-4 region record.

       Munford struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 35.5 points a game.

       Since 2010, Munford has gone a combined 87-69. Their 55.8% winning percentage ranks 25th in Class 4A over the past fourteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Munford has managed to compile a record of 122-146. Their 46.0% winning percentage ranks 42nd in Class 4A and 221st in the AHSAA.

Head Coach:
       The Lions are led by head coach Michael Easley who is entering his sixth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 22-29 over the past five seasons at Munford. Under his direction the Lions have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Easley.

Season Outlook:

       The Munford Lions will play in Class 4A region three during the 2024 season. Following realignment, the Lions remain in 4A but move from region four over to region three.

      

       The Munford Lions will try to shake off the three win season from last year and move forward with the hope of a better showing on the football field in 2024. They have only reached the playoffs once since 2017 so there is plenty of room for improvement.

       Region 3 will be very competitive this year with Bibb County and Pleasant Grove leading the pack along with American Christian and West Blocton following close behind. The Lions will spend a lot of time on the bus traveling to the region games this year.

       Amare 'Tank' Edmondson will be back at running back after rushing for over 2,000 yards in 2023. Key focus this off season is to be ''great tacklers in space and play better up front'' according to Coach Easley at media days. Limiting big plays will also be something they will be looking for this fall.

       The Lions return their starting quarterback along with two backs. They return about five starters from last season on offense and another five on the defense.

    The Lions will need to win a few more games this fall if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region three this season.

Season Opener:
       The Lions open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Lincoln on Friday, August 30 at Munford Stadium. Last year the Lincoln Golden Bears finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in sixth place in Class 5A region six. The Golden Bears closed out the regular season with a loss to Beauregard by a score of 37-7.

       Munford and Lincoln have met a total of 80 times on the football field. The Lions have a 42-37-1 record against the Golden Bears. They last met in 2023 with Lincoln winning by a score of 29-17.

Foley outscored their opponents 433-6 in 1961. The Lions were named state champions by the Alabama Sports Writers Association that season.
