 2024 Preview 


       Phil Campbell completed the 2023 season with a 4-7 record. With their 2-4 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 3A region eight, the Bobcats earned a spot in the playoffs in 2023. Phil Campbell's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Gordo by a score of 56-6.

       Phil Campbell took a step backwards last year with their first losing season since 2019. The Bobcats last playoff victory came during the 2000 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win.

       Phil Campbell was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Bobcats want to be competitive. They only averaged 19.6 points a game.

       Phil Campbell struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 38.6 points a game.

       Since 2010, the Phil Campbell football program has struggled with a record of 50-96.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Phil Campbell has managed to compile a record of 96-169. Their 36.0% winning percentage ranks 48th in Class 3A and 315th in the AHSAA.

Head Coach:
       The Bobcats are led by head coach Jacob Hamilton who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 4-7 record in his first season at Phil Campbell. Under his direction the Bobcats have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Hamilton. Over the course of his career, Coach Hamilton's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of one time .

Season Outlook:

       The Phil Campbell Bobcats will play in Class 3A region five during the 2024 season. Following realignment, the Bobcats remain in 3A but move from region eight over to region five.

      

       The Phil Campbell Bobcats made the playoffs last season marking the fourth time in a row for them to get there. It's something the school had only done once previously. They would like to improve upon the 4-7 mark from last year and set a new record for most consecutive seasons making the post season.

       The Bobcats will be a very experienced team in 2024 as they return every starter from last year on offense and will only need to replace two starters on defense. Second year head coach Jacob Hamilton is confident his squad will be much improved this fall.

       Coach Hamilton had this to say about the Bobcats in 2024. ''We're bringing a great sense of confidence into the 2024 season. We have all of our offense returning from last year, we are only adding 2 newcomers on defense. We have had a great off-season and we are really looking forward to the season heading into a new region!''

    The Bobcats could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region five this season with a few breaks and a little improvement.

Season Opener:
       The Bobcats open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Hamilton on Friday, August 30 at Parrish Stadium. Last year the Hamilton Aggies finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in seventh place in Class 4A region five. The Aggies closed out the regular season with a loss to Fayette County by a score of 51-33.

       Phil Campbell and Hamilton have met a total of 32 times on the football field. The Bobcats have a 4-27-1 record against the Aggies. They last met in 2005 with Hamilton winning by a score of 34-7.
