 2024 Preview 


       Valley Head completed the 2023 season with a 8-4 record. With their 5-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 1A region seven, the Tigers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2023. Valley Head reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Hackleburg by a score of 33-18.

       Since 2010, Valley Head has gone a combined 70-74. Their 48.6% winning percentage ranks 25th in Class 1A over the past fourteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Valley Head has managed to compile a record of 122-139. Their 47.0% winning percentage ranks 29th in Class 1A and 231st in the AHSAA.

Graduated All-State Players:
       Valley Head lost 1A All-State  offensive lineman Ethan Webb to graduation. He was named to the second team last season.

Head Coach:
       The Tigers are led by head coach Charles Hammon who is entering his eighth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 41-36 over the past seven seasons at Valley Head. Under his direction the Tigers have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times. They have won one region crown with Coach Hammon.

Season Outlook:

       The Valley Head Tigers will play in Class 1A region eight during the 2024 season. Following realignment, the Tigers remain in 1A but move from region seven over to region eight.

      

       The Tigers have reached the playoffs in each of the past six seasons. That's the longest streak in school history and they would like nothing better than to get back there in 2024.

       The Tigers will return four players to the offense and four on defense in 2024. They will be counting on a group of newcomers to step up and fill vacancies on both side of the football this fall.

       Coach Hammon said ''A lot of new faces this season. Our goal is to get back in the playoffs''

    The Tigers are considered one of the favorites for the region eight championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs.

Players to Watch in 2024:
      RB Tytan Blevins will return after rushing for 1,801 yards and 19 TDs last season as a freshman. RB Nate Bain will be back after rushing for 1,157 yards and 15 TDs last season as a junior.

      RB Ben Johnson will also be back after rushing for 371 yards and 6 TDs as a sophomore in 2023. Johnson also collected 120 tackles on defense in 2023.

Season Opener:
       The Tigers open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Cedar Bluff on Friday, August 23 at Tiger Stadium. Last year the Cedar Bluff Tigers finished with an overall record of 5-6 and in fourth place in Class 1A region seven. The Tigers lost in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs to Wadley by a score of 62-10.

       Valley Head and Cedar Bluff have met a total of 59 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 19-40-0 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2023 with Valley Head winning by a score of 44-20.
