 2024 Preview 


       Wicksburg completed the 2023 season with a 5-6 record. With their 4-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 2A region two, the Panthers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2023. Wicksburg's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Reeltown by a score of 34-14.

       Wicksburg took a step backwards last year with their first losing season since 2019.

       Since 2010, Wicksburg has gone a combined 75-74. Their 50.3% winning percentage ranks 30th in Class 3A over the past fourteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Wicksburg has managed to compile a record of 124-140. Their 47.0% winning percentage ranks 31st in Class 3A and 203rd in the AHSAA.

Head Coach:
       The Panthers are led by head coach Josh Cox who is entering his eleventh season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 63-47 over the past ten seasons at Wicksburg. Under his direction the Panthers have qualified for the playoffs a total of eight times. They have won one region crown with Coach Cox.

Season Outlook:

       The Wicksburg Panthers will play in Class 3A region two during the 2024 season. The Panthers move up in classification to Class 3A. They may find the going slightly tougher with the move.

      

       The Panthers move up in classification to 3A this year which could prove to make their journey to the playoffs even more difficult. They will be joined in region 2 by two teams who dropped down from 4A. The Panthers have reached the playoffs in each of the past four seasons and seven of the last eight years under head coach Josh Cox.

       Having a returning starter at quarterback will be an asset for Wicksburg when they open the season in August.

    The Panthers could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region two this season with a few breaks and a little improvement.

Players to Watch in 2024:
      QB Mason Burkhardt will be returning for his junior season after completing 100-of-173 passes for 1,376 yards and 15 TDs last season.

      Burkhardt also be ran for 1,041 yards and 16 touchdowns. WR Gabe Glover will be returning for his senior season after catching 31 passes for 466 yards and 2 touchdowns.

      DT Izaac Murry collected 99 tackles (32 solo) including one sack and will be back for his senior season.

LB/RB Teagan Fowler, QB/DB Seth Williams, RB/QB Caiden Mims, RB/NG Jackson Daughtry

Season Opener:
       The Panthers open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Providence Christian on Friday, August 23 at Providence Christian Stadium. Last year the Providence Christian Eagles finished with an overall record of 5-6 and in third place in Class 3A region two. The Eagles lost in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs to Trinity by a score of 31-14.

       Wicksburg and Providence Christian have met a total of 13 times on the football field. The Panthers have a 5-8-0 record against the Eagles. They last met in 2021 with Wicksburg winning by a score of 20-0.
