2018 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Carver completed the 2017 season with a 7-4 record. With their 3-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 6A region six, the Rams earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. Carver's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Austin by a score of 48-0. The Rams won as many games as in any season since 1984. It marked the first time since the 2003 season that the Rams qualified for the playoffs. The Rams last playoff victory came during the 1984 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. Since 2010, Carver has gone a combined 26-55. Their 32.0% winning percentage ranks 49th in Class 6A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 23 seasons, Carver has not won much with a record of 59-162. Their 27.0% winning percentage ranks 52nd in Class 6A and 353rd in the AHSAA. The Rams have struggled on the football field with only four winning seasons during this time. The Rams are led by head coach Rod Carson who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 20-21 over the past four seasons at Carver. Under his direction the Rams have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Carson. Coach Carson's overall record as a head football coach in four season stands at 20-21 (48.8%). The Carver Rams will play in Class 6A region five during the 2018 season. Following realignment, the Rams remain in 6A but move from region six over to region five. With a little luck and some improvement, the Rams could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region five this season. Unfortunately, Carver finds themselves in a very competitive region with other playoff quality teams. They may need to pull off an upset or two to have any shot at the postseason. The Rams open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Fairfield on Thursday, August 30 at Carver High School Stadium. Last year the Fairfield Tigers finished with an overall record of 3-7 and in sixth place in Class 5A region five. The Tigers closed out the regular season with a loss to Jackson-Olin by a score of 41-0. Carver and Fairfield have met a total of 13 times on the football field. The Rams have a 3-10-0 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2015 with Fairfield winning by a score of 17-14. College prospects include: Corrie Hutcherson (6-5, 270) defensive tackle, Keshun Brown (6-0, 200) outside linebacker, | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
