Jackson-Olin completed the 2017 season with a 6-4 record. Last year Jackson-Olin finished sixth in Class 6A region five with a 2-4 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Mustangs last playoff victory came during the 1997 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. Since 2010, Jackson-Olin has gone a combined 29-52. Their 36.0% winning percentage ranks 44th in Class 6A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Jackson-Olin has managed to compile a record of 90-156. Their 37.0% winning percentage ranks 46th in Class 6A and 303rd in the AHSAA. The Mustangs are led by head coach Tim Vakakes who is entering his sixth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 22-29 over the past five seasons at Jackson-Olin. Under his direction the Mustangs have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Vakakes. Coach Vakakes' overall record as a head football coach in five season stands at 22-29 (43.1%). The Jackson-Olin Mustangs will play in Class 6A region five during the 2018 season. The Mustangs will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region five this season. Jackson-Olin came up short of the playoffs last year but are optimistic of a return to the post season this year. The Mustangs open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Fairfield on Friday, August 24 at Clements Field. Last year the Fairfield Tigers finished with an overall record of 3-7 and in sixth place in Class 5A region five. The Tigers closed out the regular season with a loss to Jackson-Olin by a score of 41-0. Jackson-Olin and Fairfield have met a total of 18 times on the football field. The Mustangs have a 12-6-0 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2017 with Jackson-Olin winning by a score of 41-0. Jackson-Olin returns 6A All-State athlete AJ Toney. He was named to the second team last season.
