2018 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Decatur completed the 2017 season with a 4-6 record. Last year Decatur finished seventh in Class 6A region eight with a 2-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Red Raiders hope to rebound after a down year. Last season they struggled winning just four games which followed a 10-2 record in 2016. Since 2010, Decatur has gone a combined 53-36. Their 60.0% winning percentage ranks 23rd in Class 6A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Decatur has managed to compile a record of 174-99. Their 64.0% winning percentage ranks 16th in Class 6A and 65th in the AHSAA. The Red Raiders are led by head coach Jere Adcock who is entering his twenty-third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 163-89 over the past twenty-two seasons at Decatur. Under his direction the Red Raiders have qualified for the playoffs a total of eighteen times. They have won seven region crowns with Coach Adcock. Coach Adcock's overall record as a head football coach in twenty-two season stands at 163-89 (64.7%). His 163 wins rank 23rd among active coaches in the AHSAA. The Decatur Red Raiders will play in Class 6A region seven during the 2018 season. Following realignment, the Red Raiders remain in 6A but move from region eight over to region seven. With a little luck and some improvement, the Red Raiders could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region seven this season. Decatur came up short of the playoffs last year but are optimistic of a return to the post season this year. The Red Raiders open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Huntsville on Thursday, August 23 at Shorty Ogle Stadium. Last year the Huntsville Panthers finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in fourth place in Class 7A region four. The Panthers lost in the first round of the Class 7A playoffs to Thompson by a score of 35-0. Decatur and Huntsville have met a total of 92 times on the football field. The Red Raiders have a 52-34-6 record against the Panthers. They last met in 2017 with Huntsville winning by a score of 38-28. Decatur returns 6A All-State receiver Cameron Morson. He was named to the honorable mention team last season. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
