Sparkman completed the 2017 season with a 7-4 record. With their 5-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 7A region four, the Senators earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. Sparkman's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Hoover by a score of 49-7. The Senators improved in 2017 with their first winning season since 2006. The Senators won as many games as in any season since 2006. It marked the first time since the 2006 season that the Senators qualified for the playoffs. The Senators should be in contention for a playoff spot in region four this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game. The Senators open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Hazel Green on Friday, August 31 at Bob Grimwood Stadium. Last year the Hazel Green Trojans finished with an overall record of 2-8 and in sixth place in Class 6A region eight. The Trojans closed out the regular season with a loss to Oak Mountain by a score of 36-29. Sparkman and Hazel Green have met a total of 62 times on the football field.
