 2018 Preview

Pelham completed the 2017 season with a 5-6 record. With their 3-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 6A region three, the Panthers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. Pelham's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Spanish Fort by a score of 49-14.

The defense allowed a team record 397 points last season. It marked the first time since the 2013 season that the Panthers qualified for the playoffs.

Pelham had a very good offense last year, scoring 30.4 points per game, but it couldn't keep up with a defense that gave up 36.1 points per game.

Since 2010, Pelham has gone a combined 32-51. Their 39.0% winning percentage ranks 42nd in Class 6A over the past eight seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Pelham has managed to compile a record of 126-135. Their 48.0% winning percentage ranks 33rd in Class 6A and 219th in the AHSAA.

The Panthers are led by head coach Tom Causey who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 8-23 over the past three seasons at Pelham. Under his direction the Panthers have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Causey.

Coach Causey's overall record as a head football coach in eighteen season stands at 121-86 (58.5%). His 121 wins rank 38th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Causey's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of fifteen times and won two region championships. Coach Causey won a state championship at in 2009.

The Pelham Panthers will play in Class 6A region five during the 2018 season. Following realignment, the Panthers remain in 6A but move from region three over to region five.

The Panthers will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region five this season.

The Panthers open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Calera on Friday, August 24 at Ricky M. Cairns Memorial Stadium. Last year the Calera Eagles finished with an overall record of 7-5 and in second place in Class 5A region three. The Eagles lost in the second round of the Class 5A playoffs to Beauregard by a score of 30-17.
