2018 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Central finished the 2017 season with a disappointing 0-10 record. Last year Central finished seventh in Class 5A region three with a 0-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Falcons lost as many games as in any season since 2010. The Falcons would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 2-18 record. Since 2010, the Central football program has struggled with a record of 21-61. Over the past 25 seasons, Central has managed to compile a record of 126-131. Their 49.0% winning percentage ranks 31st in Class 5A and 195th in the AHSAA. The Falcons are led by head coach Dennis Connor who is entering his ninth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 21-61 over the past eight seasons at Central. Under his direction the Falcons have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Connor. Coach Connor's overall record as a head football coach in eight season stands at 21-61 (25.6%). The Central Falcons will play in Class 5A region three during the 2018 season. The Falcons enter the 2018 season in the middle of a 12 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. This season, the Falcons will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region three. After not winning a single game last year, the goal at Central will be to simply win some games. The Falcons open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Paul Bryant on Friday, August 24 at Falcon Stadium. Last year the Paul Bryant Stampede finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in third place in Class 6A region four. The Stampede lost in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs to Sidney Lanier by a score of 21-20. Central and Paul Bryant have met a total of 21 times on the football field. The Falcons have a 9-12-0 record against the Stampede. They last met in 2017 with Paul Bryant winning by a score of 28-15. Central returns 5A All-State Junior running back Javonta Leatherwood. He was named to the honorable mention team last season. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
