2018 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Hale County finished the 2017 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year Hale County finished eighth in Class 4A region four with a 0-7 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Wildcats lost as many games as in any season since 2003. The Wildcats had some tough luck last season as six of their nine losses were by less than eight points. Since 2010, Hale County has gone a combined 37-48. Their 44.0% winning percentage ranks 37th in Class 3A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Hale County has managed to compile a record of 128-127. Their 50.0% winning percentage ranks 29th in Class 3A and 184th in the AHSAA. The Wildcats are led by head coach Charles Moody Jr. who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 6-15 over the past two seasons at Hale County. Under his direction the Wildcats have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Moody Jr.. Coach Moody Jr.'s overall record as a head football coach in seven season stands at 34-42 (44.7%). Over the course of his career, Coach Moody Jr.'s teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times . The Hale County Wildcats will play in Class 3A region four during the 2018 season. The Wildcats may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class 4A to 3A. They will compete in region four this year. The Wildcats enter the 2018 season in the middle of a 9 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. This season, the Wildcats will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region four. The Wildcats open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Sipsey Valley on Friday, August 31 at Howell Field. Last year the Sipsey Valley Bears finished with an overall record of 4-7 and in fourth place in Class 4A region four. The Bears lost in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs to Catholic Montgomery by a score of 17-0. Hale County and Sipsey Valley have met a total of 14 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 7-7-0 record against the Bears. They last met in 2017 with Sipsey Valley winning by a score of 14-31. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
