 2018 Preview 


       Gordo completed the 2017 season with a 10-2 record. Last year Gordo captured the region four title and a number one seed in the Class 3A playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-0 record. Gordo reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Mobile Christian by a score of 24-0.

       Over the past two seasons the Green Wave have gone 23-3 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. As one of the best football programs in the state since 2010, Gordo has gone a combined 83-18. Their 82.0% winning percentage ranks 2nd in Class 3A over the past eight seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Gordo has gone a combined 218-76. Their 74.0% winning percentage ranks 2nd in Class 3A and 17th in the AHSAA. The Green Wave have been successful on the football field with twenty-five winning seasons during this time. Their last losing season was 1992.




       The Green Wave are led by head coach Ryan Lolley who is entering his sixth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 55-9 over the past five seasons at Gordo. Under his direction the Green Wave have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times. They have won four region crowns with Coach Lolley.

       Coach Lolley's overall record as a head football coach in five season stands at 55-9 (85.9%).

       The Gordo Green Wave will play in Class 3A region four during the 2018 season.

       The Green Wave enter the 2018 season riding a 9 game regular season winning streak. They have won 13 straight games on their home turf at Green Wave Stadium.

       While most teams rebuild during the off season, Gordo has been a consistent winner the past few years and will simply reload this season. The Green Wave should be considered one of the favorites for the region four championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Green Wave have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 2000 and expect to be included again when November rolls around.

       The Green Wave open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Fayette County on Thursday, August 23 at Green Wave Stadium. Last year the Fayette County Tigers finished with an overall record of 12-3 and in first place in Class 4A region six. The Tigers lost in the Class 4A State Championship game last season when they were defeated by UMS-Wright. They final score was 21-7 in the Super Seven finals in Auburn.

       Gordo and Fayette County have met a total of 78 times on the football field. The Green Wave have a 34-42-2 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2017 with Fayette County winning by a score of 18-14.
