2018 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Wicksburg completed the 2017 season with a 10-2 record. Last year Wicksburg captured the region two title and a number one seed in the Class 3A playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-1 record. It was the first region championship for the Panthers since the 1999 season. Wicksburg reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Clarke County by a score of 41-14. The Panthers won as many games as in any season since 2007. The 444 points scored by the Panthers last year were a team record in a single season. The defense was very stingy last season as Wicksburg ranked 22nd in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 12.2 points a game. Since 2010, Wicksburg has gone a combined 41-43. Their 49.0% winning percentage ranks 32nd in Class 3A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Wicksburg has managed to compile a record of 116-135. Their 46.0% winning percentage ranks 39th in Class 3A and 228th in the AHSAA. The Panthers are led by head coach Josh Cox who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 29-16 over the past four seasons at Wicksburg. Under his direction the Panthers have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have won one region crown with Coach Cox. Coach Cox's overall record as a head football coach in four season stands at 29-16 (64.4%). The Wicksburg Panthers will play in Class 3A region two during the 2018 season. The Panthers should be considered one of the favorites for the region two championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Panthers open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Daleville on Friday, August 31 at Panther Stadium. Last year the Daleville Warhawks finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in second place in Class 3A region two. The Warhawks lost in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs to Oakman by a score of 31-12. Wicksburg and Daleville have met a total of 19 times on the football field. The Panthers have a 9-9-1 record against the Warhawks. They last met in 2017 with Wicksburg winning by a score of 49-14. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
