2018 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Leeds completed the 2017 season with a 7-4 record. With their 5-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 4A region three, the Greenwave earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. Leeds's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to UMS-Wright by a score of 42-7. Since 2010, Leeds has gone a combined 80-29. Their 73.0% winning percentage ranks 3rd in Class 4A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Leeds has managed to compile a record of 181-114. Their 61.0% winning percentage ranks 10th in Class 4A and 89th in the AHSAA. The Greenwave are led by head coach Lee Gibson who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 15-8 over the past two seasons at Leeds. Under his direction the Greenwave have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Gibson. Coach Gibson's overall record as a head football coach in nine season stands at 57-44 (56.4%). Over the course of his career, Coach Gibson's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of eight times . The Leeds Greenwave will play in Class 4A region four during the 2018 season. Following realignment, the Greenwave remain in 4A but move from region three over to region four. Overall, the region is among the weakest in the state. Qualifying for one of the playoffs spots could be a little easier. The Greenwave should be considered one of the favorites for the region four championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Greenwave have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 2005 and expect to be included again when November rolls around. The Greenwave open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Sylacauga on Friday, August 24 at Legion Stadium. Last year the Sylacauga Aggies finished with an overall record of 8-3 and in third place in Class 5A region four. The Aggies lost in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs to Eufaula by a score of 48-31. Leeds and Sylacauga have met a total of 10 times on the football field. The Greenwave have a 6-4-0 record against the Aggies. They last met in 1927 with Leeds winning by a score of 18-6. Leeds returns 4A All-State linebacker Braxton Ragland. He was named to the second team last season. The Greenwave also return defensive lineman Devonte Green. He was named to the honorable mention team. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
