Sylacauga completed the 2017 season with a 8-3 record. With their 4-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 5A region four, the Aggies earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. Sylacauga's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Eufaula by a score of 48-31. Since 2010, Sylacauga has gone a combined 59-29. Their 67.0% winning percentage ranks 12th in Class 5A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Sylacauga has managed to compile a record of 148-113. Their 57.0% winning percentage ranks 20th in Class 5A and 114th in the AHSAA. Their last losing season was 2007. The Aggies are led by head coach Matt Griffith who is entering his fourteenth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 83-57 over the past thirteen seasons at Sylacauga. Under his direction the Aggies have qualified for the playoffs a total of nine times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Griffith. Following realignment, the Aggies remain in 5A but move from region four over to region five. The Aggies will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region five this season. They have qualified for the playoffs every year since 2011 and are hopeful to continue that streak in 2018. The Aggies open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Leeds on Friday, August 24 at Legion Stadium. Last year the Leeds Greenwave finished with an overall record of 7-4 and in third place in Class 4A region three. The Greenwave lost in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs to UMS-Wright by a score of 42-7. Sylacauga and Leeds have met a total of 10 times on the football field.
