 2018 Preview 


       West Blocton completed the 2017 season with a 6-5 record. With their 4-3 region record and a third place finish in Class 4A region four, the Tigers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. West Blocton's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to St. James by a score of 62-13.

       Since 2010, West Blocton has gone a combined 43-44. Their 49.0% winning percentage ranks 26th in Class 4A over the past eight seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, West Blocton has managed to compile a record of 96-155. Their 38.0% winning percentage ranks 45th in Class 4A and 301st in the AHSAA.




       The Tigers are led by head coach Eric Hiott who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 12-10 over the past two seasons at West Blocton. Under his direction the Tigers have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Hiott.

       Coach Hiott's overall record as a head football coach in three season stands at 14-18 (43.8%). Over the course of his career, Coach Hiott's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times .

       The West Blocton Tigers will play in Class 4A region three during the 2018 season. Following realignment, the Tigers remain in 4A but move from region four over to region three.

       The Tigers should be in contention for a playoff spot in region three this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game.

       The Tigers open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Brookwood on Thursday, August 23 at Tiger Field. Last year the Brookwood Panthers finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in seventh place in Class 6A region four. The Panthers ended last season on a positive note with a win over Holt by a score of 60-6 after failing to gain a playoff spot.

       West Blocton and Brookwood have met a total of 69 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 37-29-3 record against the Panthers. They last met in 2017 with West Blocton winning by a score of 46-41.
