 2018 Preview

Buckhorn completed the 2017 season with a 4-6 record. Last year Buckhorn finished seventh in Class 7A region four with a 1-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

Buckhorn took a step backwards last year with their first losing season since 2012. The Bucks last playoff victory came during the 2005 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win.

Buckhorn was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Bucks want to be competitive. They only averaged 14.2 points a game.

Since 2010, Buckhorn has gone a combined 39-45. Their 46.0% winning percentage ranks 36th in Class 6A over the past eight seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Buckhorn has managed to compile a record of 120-137. Their 47.0% winning percentage ranks 35th in Class 6A and 221st in the AHSAA.

The Bucks are led by head coach Keith Henderson who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 4-6 record in his first season at Buckhorn. The Bucks have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Henderson.

Coach Henderson's overall record as a head football coach in six season stands at 15-45 (25.0%).

The Buckhorn Bucks will play in Class 6A region eight during the 2018 season. The Bucks may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class 7A to 6A. They will compete in region eight this year.

This season, the Bucks will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region eight.

The Bucks open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Madison County on Friday, August 24 at Tiger Stadium. Last year the Madison County Tigers finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in fifth place in Class 4A region seven. The Tigers closed out the regular season with a loss to Scottsboro by a score of 21-9.

Buckhorn and Madison County have met a total of 43 times on the football field. The Bucks have a 31-12-0 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2003 with Buckhorn winning by a score of 38-0.

Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

In 1969 the two point conversion was adopted for play following a touchdown. Until that time all conversions were worth one point.
