Deshler completed the 2017 season with a 7-4 record. With their 4-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 4A region eight, the Tigers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. Deshler's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Dora by a score of 29-20. The Tigers hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach Culver saw improvement as they won seven games following a 2-8 record in 2016. The defense was very stingy last season as Deshler ranked 43rd in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 14.2 points a game. Since 2010, Deshler has gone a combined 67-33. Their 67.0% winning percentage ranks 7th in Class 4A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Deshler has gone a combined 237-76. Their 76.0% winning percentage ranks 2nd in Class 4A and 12th in the AHSAA. The Tigers have been successful on the football field with twenty-two winning seasons during this time. The Tigers are led by head coach Bo Culver who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 7-4 record in his first season at Deshler. The Tigers saw improvement from a 2-8 record the season before coach Culver arrived. Under his direction the Tigers have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Culver. Coach Culver's overall record as a head football coach in seven season stands at 41-35 (53.9%). Over the course of his career, Coach Culver's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times and won one region championship. The Deshler Tigers will play in Class 4A region eight during the 2018 season. The Tigers should be in contention for a playoff spot in region eight this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game. The Tigers open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Muscle Shoals on Thursday, August 23 at Howard Chappell Stadium. Last year the Muscle Shoals Trojans finished with an overall record of 9-3 and in second place in Class 6A region eight. The Trojans lost in the second round of the Class 6A playoffs to Oxford by a score of 34-7. Deshler and Muscle Shoals have met a total of 42 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 22-19-1 record against the Trojans. They last met in 2017 with Muscle Shoals winning by a score of 27-14. Deshler returns 4A All-State defensive lineman Grant Wisdom.
