Georgiana completed the 2017 season with a 11-1 record. The Panthers cruised through the regular season with a perfect 10-0 record going into the post season. Last year Georgiana captured the region two title and a number one seed in the Class 1A playoffs. They finished region play with a 7-0 record. Georgiana reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Marengo by a score of 18-0. The high-scoring Georgiana offense ranked 9th in the AHSAA. They averaged 43.1 points a game. The Panthers defense dominated most opponents as they ranked 7th in the AHSAA. The defense gave up just 9.8 points a game. Over the past two seasons the Panthers have gone 23-2 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. Since 2010, Georgiana has gone a combined 49-40. Their 55.0% winning percentage ranks 22nd in Class 1A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Georgiana has managed to compile a record of 138-125. Their 52.0% winning percentage ranks 21st in Class 1A and 164th in the AHSAA. The Panthers are led by head coach Ezell Powell who is entering his sixth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 45-14 over the past five seasons at Georgiana. Under his direction the Panthers have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times. They have won three region crowns with Coach Powell. Coach Powell's overall record as a head football coach in five season stands at 45-14 (76.3%). The Georgiana Panthers will play in Class 1A region two during the 2018 season. The Panthers have one of the toughest schedules in Class 1A. The Panthers should be considered one of the favorites for the region two championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Panthers open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent St. Lukes on Friday, August 24 at Harmond Field. Last year the St. Lukes Wildcats finished with an overall record of 10-2 and in first place in Class 2A region one. The Wildcats lost in the quarter-finals round of the Class 2A playoffs to Goshen by a score of 56-52. Georgiana and St. Lukes have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Panthers have a 4-0-0 record against the Wildcats. They last met in 2017 with Georgiana winning by a score of 38-30. The Panthers also return offensive lineman Kendall Long.
