2018 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Kinston completed the 2017 season with a 5-5 record. Last year Kinston just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 1A region two with a 3-4 region record. The 340 points scored by the Bulldogs last year were a team record in a single season. The Bulldogs last playoff victory came during the 1987 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. Kinston had a very good offense last year, scoring 34.0 points per game, but it couldn't keep up with a defense that gave up 36.3 points per game. Since 2010, Kinston has gone a combined 36-50. Their 42.0% winning percentage ranks 34th in Class 1A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Kinston has not won much with a record of 73-175. Their 29.0% winning percentage ranks 53rd in Class 1A and 341st in the AHSAA. The Bulldogs have struggled on the football field with only four winning seasons during this time. The Bulldogs will be under the direction of new head football coach George Kennedy as they enter the 2018 season. Coach Kennedy's overall record as a head football coach in fourteen season stands at 77-73 (51.3%). Over the course of his career, Coach Kennedy's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of eight times and won one region championship. The Kinston Bulldogs will play in Class 1A region two during the 2018 season. The Bulldogs will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region two this season. Kinston missed the playoffs the past couple of seasons but hope to return to the post season this year. The Bulldogs open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Samson on Friday, August 31 at Kinston Stadium. Last year the Samson Tigers finished with an overall record of 4-7 and in fourth place in Class 2A region two. The Tigers lost in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs to Aliceville by a score of 46-14. Kinston and Samson have met a total of 43 times on the football field. The Bulldogs have a 10-33-0 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2017 with Samson winning by a score of 28-25. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
