2018 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Samson completed the 2017 season with a 4-7 record. With their 3-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 2A region two, the Tigers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. Samson's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Aliceville by a score of 46-14. Samson was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Tigers want to be competitive. They only averaged 17.5 points a game. Since 2010, Samson has gone a combined 43-43. Their 50.0% winning percentage ranks 27th in Class 2A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Samson has managed to compile a record of 111-142. Their 44.0% winning percentage ranks 39th in Class 2A and 249th in the AHSAA. The Tigers will be under the direction of new head football coach Jason Wambles as they enter the 2018 season. Coach Wambles' overall record as a head football coach in nine season stands at 35-61 (36.5%). Over the course of his career, Coach Wambles' teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of six times . The Samson Tigers will play in Class 2A region three during the 2018 season. Following realignment, the Tigers remain in 2A but move from region two over to region three. With a little luck and some improvement, the Tigers could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region three this season. The Tigers open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Geneva County on Friday, August 24 at Alva Hawk Stadium. Last year the Geneva County Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in third place in Class 2A region two. The Bulldogs lost in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs to Thorsby by a score of 42-14. Samson and Geneva County have met a total of 72 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 22-48-2 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in 2017 with Geneva County winning by a score of 41-12. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
